Honey Rye Waffles

Honey Rye Waffles

Honey rye waffles, a unique yet classic waffle recipe. Light, soft, and fluffy, not tough or gummy. These taste like regular waffles with a hint of nutty rye and light honey flavor. Going for a savory pairing like fried chicken? Just leave out the vanilla extract!

Ingredients
  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup dark rye flour
  • 1 tbsp baking powder
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 2 eggs
  • 1/4 cup honey (any variety you like, I enjoy wildflower honey)
  • 1 1/2 cup milk (I recommend whole or 2%)
  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
Instructions
  1. Measure out your dry ingredients and set aside.

  2. In a mixing bowl, whisk together the eggs and honey.

  3. Melt together the butter and the vegetable oil in a microwave-safe container.

  4. Add the milk and the butter mixture to the mixing bowl and whisk together.

  5. Sift the dry ingredients into the wet ingredients, feel free to tip in any bran that gets caught in your sifter/ strainer.

  6. Whisk together until just combined and set aside.

  7. Heat a full size waffle maker on medium. When heated, add a half cup of batter to the middle of the waffle maker.

  8. Cook waffle for about 5 minutes and then remove from the waffle maker

  9. Repeat until you run out of batter, this recipe makes about 6 large waffles.
